The Artist of the Beautiful reading response

Owen Warland is making a mysterious piece of machinery that supposedly encompasses the beauty of nature. Owen is made sick by utilitarian devices and people. In the story we aren't told much except for the fact that it has something to do with butterflies because as soon as a butterfly came out of hibernation he resumed working on it. Peter Hovenden would always walk into the clock shop and criticize what he does and questioning the odd thing Owen is working on but does not have the same sense of art as Owen does. Hopefully toward the end Peter will be able to understand Owen and get along with him and Owen will be able to finish his work.

Merchant of Venice 1

Shylock
2-5-8, 2-5-43  In these line it is clear that Shylock may have a rough lived life and has grown harsh toward gentiles/Christians

The Heart and the Fist

In "The Heart and the Fist" by Eric Greitens, the author uses many literary devices including: foreshadowing, simile, metaphor and much more. The biggest one he uses is foreshadowing. It has a whole chapter foreshadowing the end of the story. It is and excellent book but I would recommend reading the first chapter last.
The entire book talks about Eric's life from college to his careers in order, for the most part. The book starts off telling about  his experience in Iraq and Afghanistan then it goes back to his college career. It explains all his trimps to different countries to help poverty stricken and uneducated communities out. Then he talks about his boxing career which he through away to join the Navy Seals then it talks about all his training for the Seals then that's the end.

I Beat the Odds 3 and final

A key character in this story is Tony. If it werent for Tony Michael would have never made it out of the 'hood. Tony first comes into the story as Michaels basketball coach but later becomes much more. He gave much good advice and was an excellent example for Michael.
Tony took Michael under his wing for a while. Tony cared so much about Michael that he did so much as to pay for him to go to a private school. Also Tony took him to basketball camp (filenes) and persisted even when Michael stormed out because he was mad at the refs for calling fouls that didnt he didnt do.

I Beat The Odds 2

In I Beat the Odds the Tahoy family has had the most impact on Michael and his life. They always are encouraging him to succeed,  which is exactly the right influence he needs. Michael is greatly appreciative of their great attribute to his success. He says that if it weren't for that family he may not have been nearly as successful as he is.

This story keeps developing Michael's ability to succeed. As he starts out as an ambitious poor child he convinces himself that he can get out of this 'hood life his family lives in. He gets new friends that would better help his success. One of his friends dads sees him as a great potential basket ball player because of his height and invests in him. After that he just keeps going up the line.

Overall the story has a great plot that keeps unfolding. As Michael gets out of the ghetto to a friends house. Then he works with tutors to get his grades up and to learn how to take tests and to school work. From there he keeps working up the line to a private school. Then he gets into the Tahoys' house and family and they become his legal guardians. After that he finally works with Ms. Sue at nights to get his grades up even more so he can go to colleges.

I Beat the Odds

So far Michael Oher has been living with his mother and the rest of his extensive family in the ghetto of Memphis Tennessee. Occasionally when he gets home from school his mother would be gone and his eldest brother Marcus would take it apon himself to make sure that the 12 kids all had a place to stay and eat. They would usually go over to a close friends house in these times for a place to sleep and eat. When his mother would leave she would some times take the youngest child with her.

One of the Ohers' greatest fears was the social workers, the ones that would try to split the family up, At least that's the way they saw it. What the social workers were actually working for the good of the children. Eventually the social workers caught the kids and brought them in, now they're in state custody. they got split up and moved around to different foster homes when eventually since Michael was so quiet they thought he was angry and had anger issues. So they put him in a highly secured mental hospital with other children that were also suspected of anger or depression. Fortunately for Michael he was smart enough to break out and is heading home.
