The Artist of the Beautiful reading response

Owen Warland is making a mysterious piece of machinery that supposedly encompasses the beauty of nature. Owen is made sick by utilitarian devices and people. In the story we aren't told much except for the fact that it has something to do with butterflies because as soon as a butterfly came out of hibernation he resumed working on it. Peter Hovenden would always walk into the clock shop and criticize what he does and questioning the odd thing Owen is working on but does not have the same sense of art as Owen does. Hopefully toward the end Peter will be able to understand Owen and get along with him and Owen will be able to finish his work.
